What’s New in the Shop? (February 2 edition)

It’s Groundhog Day! Though judging how late it got to be cold here on Long Island, I’m not surprised that six more weeks of winter is predicted. (Not that it all matters anyway, but it’s still fun to follow!) Either way, next weekend I will be traveling to Nola (aka New Orleans) so I hope to get some time in the sun! And also pig out on some authentic Creole eats with good friends and family.

Shop-wise, you might have seen a certain character pop up on my Instagram feed recently. Work has finally winded down a wee bit, and I was able to churn out more prints for Spoonflower! So far Soldier:76 is ready for duty. Tastes like victory!

In My Sights (bluegrey)

The tiles came out a little larger than I expected, but it is a happy accident. I think the sizing works perfectly for its possibilities! Definitely not small enough for my usual zip pouches for smaller accessories and handhelds, but they would look fantastic on lounge pants, pillowcases, and tablet/laptop cases.

Later this month after my trip, this next number will also be available:

I’m super excited to finalize the Reaper fabrics here for purchase! He doesn’t have as many motifs and decals like the other heroes, so I went for a minimalist/graphic look here and it’s to die for! (Haha! Die…Reaper….oh puns) This tiling looks to be similar size to D.Va’s and Mei’s, so smaller projects will still look fine.

Since the ‘Overwatch’ train isn’t slowing down anytime soon, one of my next ideas will definitely be Pachimari, the little onion guy who randomly is in the spawn rooms as a plushie. Eventually, I will tackle all the heroes, though (I myself love to play as Junkrat and Symmetra, among others.)

On the vintage front, I haven’t spotted anything yet to raise from the dead, but I also would like to continue more original designs as well at some point. Until my muse strikes up something in that department, enjoy this little innocent fella.

I’m still not sure who on Blizzard’s creative board thought of this…but I hope they got a nice raise because it’s so CUTE!

What’s New in the Shop? (November 22 edition)

I meant to post about this ages ago but life got in the way again! With the holidays coming up, there are no signs of slowing down either so let’s get to it :).

Check out the custom Mei zipper pouch here!

By popular demand, the zipper pouch on my Etsy featuring the D.Va fabric is now available in Mei! I just relisted it back in stock too after an order was put in place, so depending on how many end up flying off the shelf I will have to start setting up multiple quantities in the listings. I hope to also set up other versions of my other fabrics, so the non-Overwatch folks can have their fun too!

My batch of Spoonflower designs is almost at its end for now, with the last of the Animal Crossing line released the other day, inspired by the cleverly named Sharp Tee. So far red and blue hashtooth are available but if you’d like a different color variation please let me know and I’d be more than happy to set up a custom design for you!

With the holidays approaching, a coupon code will be available for the holiday Etsy sale again this year! I will release it on Black Friday and it will be valid through December 31, so keep an eye out. Until then, Happy Thanksgiving!

Etsy shop has been reopened!

You probably noticed by now, but as of late September, my Etsy has finally been reopened! It will be featuring top fabrics from my Spoonflower shop (and items made from those textiles), and other cute made-to-order items such as amigurumi. I’m also in the process of cleaning through supplies I don’t use, like beads, so sometimes you may see art/craft supplies. So far I already sold a zipper pouch, internationally!

With AAC right around the bend, I’ve been finally working on my Mei cheongsam. Normally I don’t rush to get garment patterns for a project (I like to make it myself, especially since a lot of cosplay has to do with crazy designs that just don’t normally exist unless you customize a pattern anyway!), but with only one yard of my Mei fabric on me, I really didn’t feel like messing up ^^;. Fortunately, Pinterest didn’t fail me like it did Soldier, and the pattern I found for my cheongsam was a perfect fit!

I paired it with a polyester sherpa for a wintry look, and it is SO comfy! Definitely the best dress I ever made! Now I’m kind of sad I didn’t bother biting my pride and use a pattern for my Elphelt gown way back. I’m a stubborn goof like that.

As of the Soldier mask for Nick, the base paint is done and the gesso did a great job reinforcing it, the frame especially! I’ll be adding the finishing touches this weekend so I can ship it to him Monday with my Phasma helmet. (Between transferring trains to get over to him for the con, I was nervous I would damage both of them.) That way, he can bring the box of them over in the car when we drive up! Life hacks!

What’s New in the Shop? (September 2 edition)

My new set of swatches came in and they turned out fantastic! I’m so excited to slowly begin releasing them for sale on Spoonflower! I’ve seen a steady stream of favorites and even (gasp!) sales lately over the past month alone, and it makes me so happy! Thank you everyone ^^ it really means a lot to me. I’m always thrilled even if I get one favorite or like on my designs, so when it came to sales popping up I was over the moon! All of this feedback has been really helpful for me when it comes to reopening my Etsy store and restocking everything.

New designs are out! Chill Out in GreyTotally 80sCrewella

Starting today, more geek prints will be coming out featuring fun designs from (of all things) shirts and dresses in the hit series Animal Crossing. Almost like custom designing but in reverse! Even though I love making new designs for my mayor in New Leaf, some of the ones in the game already are just so cute and quirky! It would be fun to see someone use them for their mayor/villager cosplay, or just to wear around in regular civvies. One of the new designs above, Crewella, is an example of this. My favorite fabric print in the game of all time has to be the Butterfly Dress from Gracie’s collection though, and I’m really excited to debut that inspired design in the next few weeks on Spoonflower.

For Overwatch designs, other popular and fun characters will be added over time, including Tracer, Soldier, and Reaper , among others. The latter two will have a more masculine color scheme. Gotta get the boys in on the fun too! (I might end up making pajama pants from the Soldier design for myself…)

Over the next couple of weeks, you may see some activity on my Etsy store as I restock and put up new listings. Like Spoonflower, you’ll also be able to purchase fabric there as well, and it will print and ship directly to you.

More Pinterest fails (and some cute fabric)

Oh, Pinterest. It’s a treasure trove of discovery and creativity, but like everything else on the Internet, you need to take it with a grain of salt too. Usually I’m pretty good with spotting what obviously is not true or does not work when it comes to Pinterest posts and ideas, but this one has to take the cake.

For AAC this year, boyfriend Nick and I want to do another quick couples’ cosplay besides our Star Wars one. (I am taking along Phasma for Friday since I wasn’t able to go to the other con due to a family emergency.) We decided on Overwatch, despite the fact that I lack the systems to play it (my personal rule of thumb for cosplay has been that I need to know/play the characters’ source material before doing the costume, but I will admit there have been a few exceptions in the past). When  we first saw Mei’s design I probably screamed and thought Blizzard was stalking me.

But more on her later!

sol.dierAs of Nick, he’s taken to Soldier:76 (left), though Reaper was honorable mention. I decided for an early birthday gift that I help him with his visor, since I really had fun making Phasma’s helmet and it turned out so well.

So we split the project up, him purchasing the LED visor from a fellow Etsy seller, and I with the mask’s papercraft. This is where the Pinterest fail came in, as there’s a pattern circulating the boards advertising as a “lifesize” “cosplay” pepakura pattern.

So…about that #pepakura….The author of this pattern is an ass. This clearly is not a 1:1 lifesize wearable #Soldier76 #mask unless the cosplayer is a giant lmao! 8 hours down the drain. Might as well finish and trim it down to size tomorrow :(! #papercraftfail #overwatch #cosplaywip

I was basically livid. I can go on about the horrors of that pattern. You had to scramble through pages to find matching pieces, the print was tiny, and then apparently it was blown up to 500% ^^;. I don’t get it.

Fortunately, I came across a different pattern thanks to good old Google searching! I was so elated with the success of this pattern than I actually gave a little tip on the author’s Patreon page, and usually I don’t do that sort of thing. A big shoutout to Silvarruxx! This was the finished result.

I may look like a headcrab got me, but hey – it fits, it was far easier to assemble, and a lot of the times I had no idea paper could even fold that way! I say it in a good way though. This pattern was far superior, and for you Overwatch fans, Silvarruxx has tons of others for your cosplay goodies. I grabbed Mei’s little droid just in case I decide to stick her on my ice pack, and Reaper’s skull mask for another day.

That aside, I’m happy some of my Spoonflower designs are getting favorites! Thank you! It means a lot! I slowly have been adding more to the shop for availability, with a new crop of swatches on the way as well. Some new upcoming patterns are also more vintage oriented, but also Animal Crossing-inspired. You know, like the funky shirts you can buy at Able’s? Well, now you can make them! Reverse customization! Let YOUR sewing machine be your real-life QR reader!! (I was born in the wrong decade. If this were 50 years ago I’d be making bank with all the jingles and slogans I come up with.)

Chill Out! in Blue (click for product info)

Anyway, for now here’s a design based on Mei’s accessories, sprays, and so on. I’m turning my yardage into a cheongsam dress for my more casual costume to match my Soldier. I’m really excited! A grey variant will also be available soon. These would make cozy lounge pants!
